Oman Issues Strict Warning to Content Creators Over Wildlife Harassment in Dhofar
The Environment Authority in Oman has issued a stern warning to social media content creators following a surge in unauthorized attempts to chase and film wild animals in the Dhofar region. Authorities highlighted that this trend is not only irresponsible but deeply damaging, as the pursuit of wildlife causes severe stress to animals, disrupts their natural habitats, and poses a significant safety risk to both humans and local fauna. Given that Dhofar is home to sensitive and rare species, including the critically endangered Arabian leopard and the Nubian ibex, officials emphasized that these reckless actions threaten the delicate ecological balance of the region.
As the annual Khareef season draws massive crowds of tourists and influencers to Dhofarâs lush landscapes, the government is intensifying its efforts to enforce environmental protection laws. Under the Natural Reserves and Wildlife Conservation Law, it is strictly illegal to pursue or photograph wild animals without obtaining the necessary official permits. The Environment Authority has confirmed that it is actively collaborating with security agencies to monitor online content for violations. Moving forward, those found disregarding these regulations will face legal consequences as the state takes firm steps to safeguard its unique biodiversity and natural heritage.
