Bahrain Sentences Three to Life for Spying for Iran
A Bahraini court has handed down life sentences to three individuals convicted of acting as spies for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). In two separate legal proceedings, the High Criminal Court found that the defendants had actively assisted in hostile operations against the Kingdom. Authorities revealed that one case involved a fugitive who had recruited an operative within Bahrain to identify critical infrastructure as potential targets for Iranian aggression. The second case centered on an individual who allegedly transmitted video footage and precise coordinates of sensitive sites to IRGC-affiliated accounts, directly jeopardizing national security and the safety of the local population.
The convictions follow a rigorous investigation by the Public Prosecution, which included forensic examinations of electronic devices and the testimony of several witnesses. Throughout the trial, the court ensured legal due process, providing the accused with the right to legal counsel before delivering the final verdicts and ordering the confiscation of all seized evidence. These sentences arrive during a period of heightened regional tension, as Bahrain continues to defend its airspace against an ongoing wave of missile and drone attacks launched by Iran in retaliation for broader conflicts involving the United States.
