Massive Milk Adulteration Racket Uncovered in Maharashtra
Authorities in Maharashtra have recently exposed a disturbing milk adulteration scheme centered in the Dharashiv district. Over the last six months, criminals allegedly produced roughly 23 million litres of tainted milk by mixing 230,000 kilograms of low-quality milk powder with harmful ingredients like palm oil, detergent, and synthetic chemical additives. By diluting 10 litres of this concoction into every 100 litres of genuine dairy, the perpetrators sought to artificially boost fat content while putting public health at significant risk.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) director Tukaram Mundhe has condemned the operation, emphasizing that the consumption of such chemicals can cause severe, long-term damage to the liver, kidneys, and digestive systems, particularly in vulnerable groups like children and the elderly. In response, the FDA has pledged to intensify inspections, especially leading up to the festive season when demand for dairy products spikes. This crackdown aims to hold unscrupulous producers accountable and ensure they strictly follow FSSAI safety standards, following similar high-profile raids that have occurred across various states in recent years.
