Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Climbs to 4,930
The official death toll from the devastating twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela late last month has climbed to 4,930, as confirmed by senior lawmaker Jorge Rodriguez on Thursday. While the count of injured individuals remains steady at 16,740—with many already released from medical care—the displacement crisis continues to escalate. Currently, 17,907 people are confirmed homeless, and the number of survivors forced into temporary shelters has surged to 21,210.
It has been three weeks since the powerful 7.2 and 7.5-magnitude tremors hit the coastal state of La Guaira, located just north of Caracas. Despite the passage of time, rescue teams and grieving families are still working tirelessly to recover victims trapped beneath the rubble of flattened structures. Meanwhile, the survivors in overcrowded makeshift camps are facing dire humanitarian conditions, struggling daily with severe shortages of clean water and inadequate sanitation facilities.
