Deadly Clashes Leave 24 Dead Following Militant Assault in Northern Pakistan

Thu, Jul 30, 2026(45d ago)World

A violent skirmish erupted in Pakistan's Hangu district on Wednesday after armed militants launched a coordinated assault on a police checkpoint. The intense gunbattle resulted in the tragic deaths of nine police officers and left 26 others wounded. In the ensuing counter-offensive, security forces managed to neutralize 15 of the attackers, though the clash left local law enforcement with significant losses, including severely damaged armored vehicles. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has since claimed responsibility for the aggression, which continues to destabilize the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

This incident follows a similarly brutal attack just days prior in the Tank district, where a vehicle laden with explosives was rammed into a security post, claiming 15 lives. These recurring security failures have further strained relations between Islamabad and Kabul, as Pakistan continues to hold the Afghan Taliban responsible for the surge in cross-border militancy. Despite Pakistan’s efforts to curb the violence through recent air strikes, the geopolitical rift remains deep, with both international observers and the Taliban regime expressing grave concerns over the mounting civilian and security toll in the region.
