Tehran’s Embassy Denies Involvement in Kuwaiti Assassination Plot
The Iranian embassy in Kuwait has officially refuted allegations linking an Iranian national to a failed assassination plot against Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, the country's Interior Minister. This response follows a recent court ruling that handed down death sentences to three individuals convicted of spying for Iran and collaborating with Hezbollah to destabilize Kuwait. While the Kuwaiti government did not specify the nationalities of the defendants, the Iranian diplomatic mission categorically denied any involvement, asserting that the individual in question has not set foot in Kuwait for over a decade.
In its statement, the embassy criticized the accusations as “baseless narratives” that contradict the principles of good neighborly relations and international law. Tehran urged regional powers to adopt more responsible policies to avoid escalating tensions, particularly amidst the backdrop of the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran. The Kuwaiti court, however, maintained a firm stance, emphasizing that any attempts to compromise national security or target state officials under foreign instruction constitute a severe act of hostility that threatens the nation's sovereignty and public stability.
