Drone Strike Reported at Egypt’s Damietta Port

Thu, Jul 30, 2026(1h ago)World

Egyptian authorities have officially confirmed that a fire which engulfed two gas tankers at the Damietta Port on Wednesday was triggered by a drone strike. While the blaze was successfully brought under control without any reported injuries or fatalities, the government stated that no group or entity has come forward to claim responsibility for the attack. Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi visited the site to supervise the emergency response, and officials are continuing a thorough investigation to secure national infrastructure and determine the exact motives behind the incident.

Conflicting reports initially emerged regarding the nature of the event, with maritime security firms identifying the struck vessels as the Energos Winter—a U.S.-owned floating storage and regasification unit—and the Gaslog Salem. Witnesses and security experts noted that an unidentified projectile hit the starboard side of the Energos Winter, causing flames to spread to the nearby tanker. This development follows a period of heightened regional volatility, as the incident occurred amidst broader tensions involving missile strikes and military escalations across the Middle East.
