Israel Reports Killing of New Hamas Military Leader in Gaza
In a significant escalation of its ongoing campaign, the Israeli military confirmed on Wednesday that it had killed Mohammad Odeh, a senior figure within Hamas. Odeh, who reportedly served as the group’s head of intelligence, was targeted in a strike on an apartment building in Gaza City's Rimal neighborhood. According to local health officials, the attack resulted in at least six fatalities, including Odeh’s wife and son, and left over 20 people injured. Israeli officials claim Odeh had recently stepped into the role of the group's armed wing chief following the death of his predecessor, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, just last week.
The strike marks a continuation of Israel’s aggressive military strategy across multiple fronts, including operations in Lebanon and the West Bank. While Hamas has yet to provide an official confirmation regarding Odeh's specific leadership status, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the operation is part of a broader effort to dismantle the organization’s command structure. As ceasefire negotiations remain at a standstill, the humanitarian toll in Gaza continues to climb, with regional tensions showing little sign of abating as the Israeli government remains committed to its goal of eliminating those linked to the October 7, 2023, attacks.
