Pakistan’s Dining Scene Gets a Futuristic Upgrade with Homegrown Robots
In the bustling heart of Karachi, a unique dining experience is turning heads as robotic waitresses named Robia and Jojo navigate the tables of a local eatery. While automated service is becoming commonplace in parts of China and the U.S., these machines are a rare sight in Pakistan, offering a glimpse into the future of hospitality. Designed by engineer Syed Osama Aziz, these robots feature distinctive white spherical heads and dark visors, accented with traditional local shawls. Aziz built them from the ground up, overcoming the challenge of sourcing specialized parts by crafting circuit boards and programming the systems in his own lab.
The presence of these androids has sparked significant excitement, drawing families and curious patrons from across the city to witness the technology firsthand. Beyond just delivering pizzas, the robots greet guests with electronic voices, creating a fun, interactive atmosphere that kids and adults alike seem to love. Looking ahead, Aziz plans to upgrade the robots with sophisticated camera-based image processing, which would allow them to recognize repeat customers and offer personalized menu recommendations. For now, the successful integration of these machines has not only boosted the restaurant's popularity but also showcased the potential for homegrown innovation in the Pakistani tech sector.
