Filipino Worker Killed in Saudi Drone Strike Finally Laid to Rest
The remains of an overseas Filipino worker who tragically lost his life during an October 21 drone strike in Saudi Arabia have finally been returned to the Philippines. The worker was killed while driving near the Saudi Aramco Shaybah oilfield when intercepted drone debris struck his vehicle. Following close coordination between the victimâs employer, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, and the Migrant Workers Office in Al Khobar, the remains arrived home on November 6. The employer ensured that all outstanding wages and end-of-service benefits were fully processed to support the grieving family during this difficult time.
In the wake of this loss, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) have mobilized to provide comprehensive support to the bereaved family. Under the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the government is offering financial aid through the AKSYON Fund, along with burial assistance and long-term educational support for the worker's child. DMW Assistant Secretary Maria Regina Galias conveyed the official condolences of the agency, emphasizing that the government remains committed to assisting the family with both immediate funeral arrangements and future reintegration programs.
