Pakistani Astronaut to Make History on China’s Space Station
In a landmark move for international space cooperation, Beijing’s manned space agency has announced that a Pakistani astronaut will become the first foreign national to visit China’s Tiangong space station. Joining the upcoming Shenzhou-24 mission, the astronaut will serve as a payload specialist during a short-term orbital flight. While a specific launch date has yet to be confirmed, the mission is slated to take place before the end of the year. This milestone follows a collaborative agreement signed in February 2025, which paved the way for professional training programs between the two nations.
This partnership underscores the long-standing "all-weather" strategic friendship between Pakistan and China. Although the specific identity of the mission member remains undisclosed, China’s space agency previously identified Muhammad Zeeshan Ali and Khurram Daud as the candidates undergoing rigorous training for these roles. As Beijing continues to aggressively expand its space program—aiming for a lunar landing by 2030—this collaborative effort serves as a testament to the deepening economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries, with further short-term missions expected to follow in the coming years.
