Bank of Baroda Settles Long-Standing NMC Health Legal Battle for $600 Million
Bank of Baroda has officially resolved its complex legal dispute with the joint administrators of NMC Health by agreeing to a $600 million settlement. This agreement brings a definitive close to high-profile litigation that was being heard concurrently in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Court and the High Court of Justice in England and Wales. The payment, processed through the bank’s Abu Dhabi branch, addresses claims stemming from the 2020 collapse of the UAE healthcare giant, which famously unraveled after revealing billions of dollars in hidden debt.
By finalizing this payout, the bank has effectively halted ongoing legal proceedings without admitting to any liability or wrongdoing. The settlement, which was formally disclosed to Indian stock exchanges, was strategically chosen to avoid the mounting costs and prolonged uncertainty associated with further litigation. As part of the deal, the ADGM case has been formally discontinued, and the parallel English proceedings are now in the process of being withdrawn, finally putting the chapter on the NMC insolvency to rest for the lender.
