Al Habtoor Group to Exit Lebanon Market Amid Economic Uncertainty

Mon, Nov 2, 2026(1h ago)Business

Dubai-based Al Habtoor Group has officially announced plans to offload all of its assets and investments in Lebanon, marking a final exit from a market it entered in the late 1990s. The decision follows a strategic review initiated after the conglomerate ceased its local operations in January, citing mounting losses that reached Dh6.24 billion. By moving toward a complete divestment of its hotels, commercial properties, and land holdings, the group aims to shield its interests from the country’s ongoing economic instability and unpredictable political landscape.

Management stated that the sale will be conducted through a structured, transparent process, with each asset evaluated based on prevailing market conditions. This pivot is part of a broader corporate shift designed to relocate capital toward regions that offer greater growth potential and long-term security. Despite being a major contributor to Lebanon’s tourism and real estate sectors for over two decades, the company determined that exiting the market is the only viable path forward as the nation continues to struggle with stalled reforms and a challenging economic forecast.
