UAE and Democratic Republic of Congo Launch Landmark Trade Deal
The United Arab Emirates and the Democratic Republic of Congo have officially launched a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), a move set to transform bilateral commerce by eliminating tariffs on the vast majority of goods. This agreement aims to streamline customs processes and lower trade barriers, paving the way for deeper investment in critical sectors like logistics, energy, and manufacturing. The timing is ideal, as non-oil trade between the two nations saw a significant 38.5 percent jump to $3.5 billion in 2025, highlighting an already strengthening economic relationship.
Beyond direct trade, the deal acts as a strategic gateway for UAE businesses looking to penetrate the broader Central and Eastern African markets. With the DRC bordering nine countries and possessing a wealth of vital resources, including major global shares of cobalt and copper, it offers a prime location for industrial expansion. UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, emphasized that this partnership is a key pillar in the country’s diversification strategy. By adding the DRC to its growing network of 20 operational trade agreements, the UAE continues to aggressively connect its economy with high-potential markets worldwide, fostering long-term growth and private-sector collaboration.
