IndiGo Eyes Expansion: In Talks to Purchase 100 Embraer Jets
India’s market-leading airline, IndiGo, is reportedly in preliminary discussions to acquire 100 regional jets from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer. Insiders suggest that the deal, which could include an additional option for 50 aircraft, remains in the early stages, meaning the final model and order volume are still subject to change. If finalized, the deliveries for these planes are not expected to begin until 2030, marking a significant strategic move for the airline as it looks to bolster its operational capacity.
Securing such a massive order would represent a major milestone for Embraer, which has been actively trying to gain a larger footprint in India’s rapidly growing aviation sector. While IndiGo currently relies heavily on Airbus narrowbody jets and a smaller fleet of ATR turboprops, adding Embraer’s fuel-efficient regional aircraft could help the carrier optimize its short-haul network and expand its reach into smaller, regional markets. Although both companies have remained tight-lipped regarding the rumors, the potential deal underscores IndiGo's aggressive plan to grow its fleet to 600 aircraft by the end of the decade.
