UAE and Seven Nations Condemn Israeli Flag Incident at Al-Aqsa Mosque

Wed, Jun 3, 2026(45d ago)UAE

A coalition of foreign ministers, led by the UAE, has issued a sharp rebuke regarding the recent actions of extremist settlers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. By raising the Israeli flag within the courtyards under police protection, these individuals have sparked international outrage. The ministers characterized these provocations as a direct affront to international law and the established historical status quo of Jerusalem’s sacred sites. They further warned that such systematic violations threaten to alter the demographic and legal character of East Jerusalem, while undermining the long-standing custodianship of the site.

The participating nations emphasized that the entire 144-dunam Al-Aqsa compound remains an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, managed solely by the Jerusalem Endowments Department under Jordanian authority. Holding Israeli authorities accountable for these escalations, the group cautioned that such behavior destabilizes the region and obstructs global efforts toward a peaceful resolution. Ultimately, the ministers reiterated their unwavering commitment to a two-state solution, asserting that any path to lasting peace must respect the sanctity of these holy sites and guarantee the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
