UAE Launches 'Step of Hope' to Restore Mobility for Gaza Conflict Victims
The United Arab Emirates has officially inaugurated the "Step of Hope" initiative, a comprehensive program designed to provide advanced prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation services to victims of the Gaza conflict. Operating under the broader "Operation Chivalrous Knight 3," this project shifts the focus from emergency medical response to long-term recovery. By utilizing the UAE Floating Hospital stationed in Al Arish, Egypt, as its primary hub, the program aims to overcome the logistical hurdles of delivering medical care within the unstable environment of Gaza. Officials have noted that displacement made earlier efforts difficult, prompting this strategic relocation to ensure patients receive consistent care and proper fittings.
The initiative is structured into three distinct phases, beginning with the provision of high-quality prostheticsâsourced from top manufacturers in Germany, the U.S., and the U.K.âto patients currently in Egypt. Each patient receives a personalized experience, including temporary prosthetics, muscle-strengthening therapy, and three months of follow-up care. Subsequent phases of the program will introduce cutting-edge 3D scanning technology to remotely map limbs for patients inside Gaza, ultimately working toward the establishment of permanent manufacturing workshops within the strip. By integrating psychological support with technical expertise, the "Step of Hope" seeks to restore the mobility and quality of life for thousands of individuals, ranging from youth injured in the conflict to older patients requiring specialized orthopedic support.
