Abu Dhabi Launches Dh291 Million Road and Tunnel Project in Al Ain
Abu Dhabi has officially broken ground on a major Dh291 million infrastructure project designed to streamline travel between Al Ain’s residential districts and its industrial zones. The initiative, overseen by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), features the construction of a 3.2km dual carriageway and a standout 120-metre tunnel carved directly through Naqfa Mountain. By linking the Al Masoud Intersection with the Falcon Roundabout, officials aim to significantly alleviate traffic congestion and improve overall road safety. The entire project is currently on track to be completed by June 2027.
Beyond simply cutting travel times, the development prioritizes modern urban living by integrating comprehensive community features. The plan includes the addition of a 5.2-km cycling track, six kilometres of pedestrian pathways, and six new bus bays to promote sustainable public transit. To ensure the area remains environmentally friendly and resilient, the project also incorporates advanced stormwater drainage, energy-efficient street lighting, and the planting of 500 trees. This investment underscores Abu Dhabi’s long-term commitment to enhancing infrastructure while fostering a healthier, more accessible environment for its residents.
