Staying Active Indoors: How to Avoid Health Risks During the UAE Summer

Mon, Jul 13, 2026(2h ago)UAE

As temperatures climb across the UAE, many residents are retreating indoors to escape the sweltering heat. While this is a smart move to prevent heat-related illnesses, medical experts warn that trading the sun for a sedentary lifestyle can trigger a host of new health problems. Prolonged periods of sitting can lead to weight gain, muscle stiffness, poor circulation, and even mood fluctuations. Because staying inside often limits exposure to natural sunlight, it also increases the risk of vitamin D deficiency, which can weaken bone health and immune function over time.

The good news is that you don't need to brave the midday sun to stay fit. Doctors recommend embracing consistency over intensity by incorporating 20 to 30 minutes of daily activity, such as walking in climate-controlled malls, joining gym classes, or utilizing home-based workouts like yoga and Pilates. Even simple stretches or avoiding excessive screen time can make a significant difference. By shifting your workout routine to early mornings or late evenings and making use of indoor fitness options, you can protect your physical and mental well-being until the cooler weather returns.
