Justice Served: Family Reacts to Death Penalty Verdict in RAK Triple Murder Case
The family of three Syrian women tragically killed in a 2025 Ras Al Khaimah road dispute has expressed a sense of relief following the sentencing of their attacker to death. While the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court’s decision to impose the qisas (retributive justice) penalty for the premeditated murders of a 66-year-old mother and her two daughters has provided a measure of closure, the victims’ loved ones emphasize that the ruling cannot erase the profound void left by their deaths. Mahmoud Salem Wafai, who lost his mother and two sisters, shared his gratitude toward the UAE judiciary, noting that while the verdict brings some peace, the pain of such a senseless tragedy remains an ongoing struggle for the entire family.
The fatal incident, which stemmed from an argument over a narrow passage, led to the immediate deaths of two women, while a third sister survived after bravely ensuring her young son escaped to call for help. In addition to the death sentence for the shooter, the court also sentenced the defendant’s son to prison and a fine for related charges of intimidation and verbal abuse. Although this initial judgment marks a significant milestone in the legal proceedings, the case remains subject to a 15-day appeal window, with final execution requiring confirmation from higher courts. Throughout this harrowing ordeal, the family has maintained faith in the legal process, consistently praising local authorities for their diligent investigation and commitment to upholding the rule of law.
