Dubai’s autonomous taxi service gets a price tag: Now ride for just Dh5
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has officially transitioned its driverless taxi service from a free trial to a paid offering, with rides now priced at Dh5. Currently, this autonomous transportation service is available to the public within the Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim areas. While the service was initially free for early adopters through the Apollo Go app, the introduction of a fare signals a shift toward integrating these AI-powered vehicles into the city's standard transit options, following similar pricing models previously seen on platforms like Uber.
Powered by sophisticated artificial intelligence and high-definition mapping, these vehicles are engineered to navigate complex urban traffic, including intersections and pedestrian crossings, while strictly adhering to local safety regulations. The technology is backed by a robust safety record, with the operator having completed over 10 million autonomous trips globally. To experience the service, residents can simply download the Apollo Go app, register an account, and set their pick-up and drop-off points within the designated zones. Once the ride is confirmed, passengers receive a one-time password (OTP) to unlock the vehicle and commence their journey.
