Reuters Retracts False Report on Dubai 'Explosions'
Following a swift denial from Dubai officials, Reuters has formally retracted a recent report that alleged explosions were heard in the city’s downtown area. The international news agency admitted that its July 16 story, titled "Booms heard in UAE's downtown Dubai, witnesses say," failed to meet its editorial standards. In a statement of regret, the agency acknowledged that it lacked sufficient context regarding the origin or significance of the sounds before publishing the claims.
The incident prompted a firm response from Dubai’s media regulatory authority, which cautioned both the public and news organizations against disseminating unverified information. Officials emphasized that legal actions would be pursued against any outlet spreading false reports about the Emirate. UAE authorities have maintained that the country remains secure, noting that there have been no aerial threats within its borders since May 2026. While defense systems have remained active regarding threats occurring outside the nation's territory, officials continue to reassure residents that the domestic situation remains stable and under control.
