The Hidden Dangers of UAE’s Extreme Summer Heat on Driving

Wed, Aug 5, 2026(59m ago)UAE

The sweltering summer temperatures in the UAE can cause parked vehicles to reach internal temperatures exceeding 60°C in just a matter of minutes. Beyond the obvious risk of physical burns, road safety experts warn that these extreme conditions significantly impair a driver's cognitive performance and reaction times. When a person steps into such a superheated environment, the body’s cooling mechanisms are immediately overwhelmed, leading to rapid dehydration, dizziness, and decreased concentration. Medical professionals emphasize that even healthy individuals can quickly suffer from heat exhaustion or heatstroke, which not only poses a severe health threat but also dramatically increases the likelihood of accidents on the road.

To mitigate these risks, motorists must prioritize both vehicle maintenance and personal well-being. Experts suggest performing pre-drive inspections—such as checking tyre pressure, looking for fluid leaks, and listening for unusual mechanical noises—to prevent sudden vehicle failures that could endanger other commuters. Furthermore, it is critical to stay hydrated, ensure the cabin is adequately cooled before setting off, and never leave children, pets, or vulnerable individuals unattended in a parked car, even for a brief moment. Should a driver experience symptoms like blurred vision, confusion, or severe fatigue, they should pull over immediately to seek help, as the combination of mechanical stress and human heat exhaustion remains a major, often overlooked, safety hazard during the summer months.
