Staying Cool in the UAE: Essential Advice for Beating the Peak Summer Heat

Sat, Aug 8, 2026(2h ago)UAE

As the UAE experiences record-breaking temperatures, with mercury recently hitting a staggering 51.2°C, the Ministry of Health and Prevention is urging residents to prioritize their wellbeing. While we are currently moving through the final stretch of the intense "embers of summer" season, known locally as ‘Jamrat Al Qayth’, the heat remains dangerous. Staying proactive is the most effective way to prevent heat exhaustion and ensure you remain safe during these final days of extreme weather.

To protect yourself, focus on the basics: drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty, and opt for loose, light-colored clothing that keeps you cool. Whenever possible, stay in air-conditioned or shaded areas, especially during the middle of the day. If you must exercise or work outdoors, try to shift these activities to the cooler morning or evening hours, and be mindful of your vehicle’s maintenance to avoid unexpected breakdowns. Although the appearance of the star Sirius signals a transition toward milder weather, it is vital to remain cautious until the temperatures officially begin to drop.
