UAE Approves Foundayo as Innovative Treatment for Type 2 Diabetes
The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has officially authorized the use of Foundayo, also known as orforglipron, for adults living with type 2 diabetes. This decision marks the UAE as the third nation globally to approve the Eli Lilly-developed medication for this purpose, following its previous clearance for weight management earlier this year. As a once-daily, non-peptide oral tablet, Foundayo stands out within the GLP-1 receptor agonist class because it does not require the injections typically associated with similar treatments, nor does it impose strict food or water intake restrictions.
Designed to enhance blood glucose control and aid in long-term weight management, the medication is intended to be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and consistent exercise under professional medical guidance. Health authorities emphasize that this approval aligns with broader efforts to increase patient access to advanced therapies for chronic conditions. As type 2 diabetes remains a significant health concern that can lead to severe complications if left unmanaged, officials are encouraging the public to prioritize regular screenings and consistent medical checkups to facilitate early detection and effective disease management.
