The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has released updated handbooks under its Flexible Regulation Framework, providing clarity on the admission age requirements for the 2026–27 academic year. Designed to support families navigating the schooling system in Dubai, these guidelines solidify the shift to a December 31 age cut-off for schools starting in August or September. This policy, which replaces the former August 31 deadline, was introduced following an extensive review by the Ministry of Education to ensure greater fairness, social readiness, and academic stability for all children entering early education.

For families planning their child's enrollment, the new criteria rely on birth dates and specific curriculum standards rather than just age. While the December 31 rule is the standard for most schools, those with an April start date continue to utilize a March 31 cut-off. It is important to note that these regulations apply primarily to new students; existing pupils remain unaffected. Furthermore, for children transferring between schools or relocating from abroad, placement is determined by their previously completed grade levels to ensure a seamless transition and continuity in their learning journey.
