Dubai Road Infrastructure Boost: Commute Times Plummet Following Major RTA Upgrade

Sun, Sep 20, 2026(1h ago)UAE

Commuters in Dubai are experiencing a significant relief in traffic congestion following the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) completion of the extensive Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street development project. This major infrastructure overhaul includes 14 kilometers of upgraded roads, four redesigned intersections, and a series of new tunnels and bridges spanning 4.3 kilometers. By boosting the capacity of Oud Maitha Road by 50 percent—from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour—the RTA has successfully slashed travel times on this route from 20 minutes down to just five, offering a 75 percent time saving for local motorists.

Designed to accommodate the city’s rapid urban growth, the project strategically serves key residential and business hubs like Al Jaddaf, Za’abeel, and Umm Hurair, while providing seamless access to essential sites such as Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, highlighted that the project is a forward-thinking initiative aimed at supporting a population expected to exceed 420,000 by 2030. By integrating new lane configurations, expanded bridge capacities, and improved service roads, the authority has not only optimized current traffic flow but also built a robust foundation to handle future demand, ensuring safer and more efficient journeys across Dubai’s vital corridors.
