UAE Upgrades Wage Protection System for Faster, More Secure Payrolls
The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has officially launched a major upgrade to its Wage Protection System (WPS), aiming to modernize how salaries are processed across the private sector. By leveraging advanced digital infrastructure and secure API integration, the system now enables real-time data exchange between government entities and financial institutions. This shift removes the need for employers to handle manual paperwork or visit banks in person, as the registration process is now handled instantly through a centralized digital platform managed by Al Etihad Payments.
Beyond improving efficiency for businesses, this overhaul enhances the overall experience for employees by ensuring greater transparency and reliability in wage transfers. The upgraded network, which now includes 17 major financial partners such as Emirates NBD and First Abu Dhabi Bank, handles an impressive Dh37 billion in monthly transactions, covering nearly the entire private workforce. Ultimately, this initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to "Zero Government Bureaucracy" and its broader "We the UAE 2031" vision, fostering a more stable and digitally-driven financial ecosystem for the nation's labor market.
