Essential Guidelines for School Bus Safety in the UAE
To ensure the highest standards of safety for students, the UAE Ministry of Interior has launched the “Safe Roads for Our Students” initiative, emphasizing a collective responsibility among schools, parents, and transport staff. Central to these guidelines is the mandate for bus supervisors to meticulously inspect vehicles after every trip to prevent any child from being left behind. Schools are also required to designate secure loading zones and maintain open communication with families, specifically notifying parents immediately if a student is unexpectedly absent or fails to board their assigned bus.
For parents and students, the ministry stresses the importance of punctuality and vigilance. Students are advised to arrive at the bus stop five minutes early and, upon exiting, move at least 10 steps away from the vehicle to ensure they remain clearly visible to the driver. Meanwhile, drivers are strictly required to perform daily mechanical checks and ensure all children are buckled in before moving. Motorists are reminded that safety is a shared duty; ignoring a school bus's extended “Stop” sign is a serious violation that carries a Dh1,000 fine and 10 traffic points, underscoring the legal imperative to protect children during their daily commute.
