US and Iran Finalize Peace Pact to End Conflict and Reopen Hormuz Strait

Mon, Jun 15, 2026(3h ago)World

The United States and Iran have reached a preliminary agreement aimed at concluding their ongoing conflict, a move that promises to halt the American blockade of Iranian ports and reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz. Announced by both US officials and mediator Pakistan, the framework includes an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across all active fronts, including Lebanon. While the formal memorandum of understanding is set to be signed in Switzerland this Friday, the deal has already triggered a positive reaction in global markets, with oil prices dropping significantly as traders anticipate the normalization of shipping routes and the resumption of energy flows.

Despite the breakthrough, the long-term resolution of Iran’s nuclear program remains a point of contention that will be deferred to a 60-day negotiation window. While the current pact secures a ceasefire, it leaves several complex issues—such as the fate of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile and potential sanctions relief—to be finalized in future discussions. The agreement comes amidst internal political pressure for the Trump administration and follows a period of heightened regional instability that saw thousands of casualties and severe disruptions to the global economy. Although regional leaders and international allies have generally welcomed the de-escalation, the ultimate success of the deal will hinge on the forthcoming diplomatic efforts to address nuclear proliferation and the divergent security interests of involved nations.
