Sat, Jun 20, 2026(90d ago)World

A devastating train collision occurred on Friday evening approximately 60 miles north of London, resulting in the tragic death of one individual and leaving dozens of others injured. The incident involved two East Midlands Railway trains south of Bedford, prompting a massive emergency response that included over 20 ambulances and six air ambulances. According to official reports, the crash left 11 people with very serious injuries, while dozens more sustained varying degrees of harm. Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his condolences, stating that his thoughts remain with the victim's family and those currently recovering from their injuries.

Witnesses and authorities are now working to piece together the events that led to the collision, which left one carriage partially derailed and tangled with another. One passenger, a doctor named Peter Knapp, recounted the terrifying experience of a "sudden crash" while onboard. Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy confirmed that an extensive investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the disaster. As emergency services continue their work at the scene, the focus remains on supporting those affected by this heartbreaking incident.
