Dentist Arrested in Kuwait for Deceptive Billing Scheme
Kuwaiti authorities have taken a Syrian dentist into custody following a calculated fraud scheme at the Jahra Specialised Dental Centre. The practitioner reportedly misled at least five patients by pressuring them to purchase excessive amounts of dental prosthetic supplies under the guise that they were medically necessary. Once the patients paid for the materials, the dentist would return the surplus items to pharmacies, pocketing the refunds for his own personal gain.
The General Department of Criminal Investigations apprehended the suspect at his clinic, where they discovered both the supplies and the corresponding purchase invoices. Upon questioning, the dentist confessed to the scheme, admitting he had swindled patients out of amounts between 120 and 150 Kuwaiti dinars per person. The suspect has since been referred to the judicial authorities to face formal charges of fraud and embezzlement. This incident marks another blow to the integrity of the local medical sector, following a separate high-profile case last year involving a gynaecologist arrested for performing illegal medical procedures.
