Massive Attack Detained by Singapore Police Over Palestinian Flag Display

Tue, Aug 4, 2026(1h ago)World

The trip-hop legends Massive Attack recently spoke out about a distressing experience in Singapore, claiming that band members were detained, isolated, and questioned by local authorities following a concert last Wednesday. The confrontation stemmed from the musicians unfurling a Palestinian flag on stage, an act that drew cheers from the crowd but immediate scrutiny from law enforcement. In a statement released on Instagram, the group expressed deep disappointment, noting that their hotel rooms were searched and their passports were briefly seized during the ordeal.

Singaporean police have since issued stern warnings to two unnamed members of the band, citing concerns that the display could disrupt the nation’s delicate racial and religious harmony. Furthermore, the authorities have barred these two individuals from re-entering the country. Massive Attack defended their actions, arguing that displaying the flag of a sovereign state should not be a legal violation. They characterized the event as a surreal reminder of the ongoing global struggle to protect freedom of expression and universal human rights, particularly in sensitive political climates.
