Philippines Brings Home 38 Workers Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
A group of 38 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) safely touched down at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on the evening of November 6, marking another milestone in the government's ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of its citizens abroad. Arriving via a Qatar Airways flight, these individuals were promptly supported by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), which provided them with financial aid, meals, and assistance for their journey back to their respective home provinces. This arrival is part of a broader, sustained repatriation strategy aimed at helping Filipinos navigate the uncertainties caused by the volatile security situation currently unfolding in the Middle East.
The repatriation campaign operates under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s "Saving Lives" initiative, a core component of the UPLIFT program dedicated to safeguarding the welfare of migrant workers. With hundreds of citizens already brought home in recent weeks, the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration are preparing for more arrivals, with roughly 290 additional workers expected to return shortly. Authorities have urged any Filipinos needing urgent assistance to reach out to their local Migrant Workers Office or the DMW-OWWA 24/7 hotline to ensure they can be included in ongoing evacuation and support efforts.
