Sharjah and Oman Launch Strategic Logistics Corridor to Boost Trade
In a significant move to bolster regional trade, Sharjah’s Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Authority has partnered with Oman Customs to launch a new integrated logistics corridor. By connecting Sharjah’s key maritime gateways—including Port Khalid, Khorfakkan, and Hamriyah—to major Omani hubs like Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah via the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings, this initiative creates a more flexible and robust supply chain. Far from replacing current maritime routes, this land-based system is designed to provide businesses with diverse logistics options, ensuring greater efficiency and resilience in the movement of goods.
The corridor introduces a streamlined process that allows customs clearance to occur directly at the border, bypassing unnecessary transfer stages. By utilizing fast-track lanes, real-time data sharing, and pre-processing of documentation, the initiative significantly cuts down on cargo turnaround times and reduces land transport costs. With the first shipments already successfully moving between Port Khalid and Sohar, this project—complemented by similar efforts like Dubai’s "Green Corridor"—marks a major step forward in strengthening the economic ties between the UAE and Oman through faster, more reliable logistics infrastructure.
