Dubai’s ‘Green Corridor’ Proves a Major Success for Regional Trade
Dubai Customs has reported significant success with its "Green Corridor" initiative, a strategic program launched in mid-March to keep global trade moving despite regional instabilities. By creating a seamless logistics bridge through Oman’s ports and airports, the initiative has seen explosive growth in just one month. Customs declarations processed via this route soared from 12,000 in March to nearly 100,000 in April, while the total value of handled goods jumped from Dh1 billion to over Dh8 billion. This surge underscores the vital role the corridor plays in maintaining supply chain resilience, protecting local food security, and ensuring market stability.
The program works by streamlining the movement of cargo arriving in Oman, which is then transported overland to Dubai via the Hatta Border Crossing using advanced digital monitoring and pre-arrival data. Beyond speeding up customs clearance for Jebel Ali Port and various free zones, the initiative has introduced greater operational flexibility, including an extension of the goods transit period from 30 to 90 days. According to Dubai Customs Director-General Dr. Abdulla Busenad, this proactive framework highlights Dubai’s ability to pivot during times of crisis, solidifying its reputation as a global logistics hub capable of ensuring uninterrupted commercial activity regardless of regional challenges.
