DP World Boosts Indian Coastal Shipping with New Vessel
DP World has bolstered its maritime logistics arm, Shipping Solutions, by adding a new container vessel, the DP World Indus, to its fleet. Capable of carrying over 2,500 TEUs, this India-flagged ship is designed to enhance domestic coastal trade connectivity. By integrating this vessel into its existing network, which currently covers 14 ports and comprises 10 ships, the company aims to streamline cargo movement across the country, providing a more reliable and efficient alternative to road transport.
This strategic expansion supports broader goals of creating a greener and more resilient supply chain by reducing the carbon footprint associated with long-haul road freight. According to Ganesh Raj, Global COO of Marine Services at DP World, the move reflects the company's commitment to bridging gaps in Indiaās maritime infrastructure. Following a milestone maiden call at the Jeddah South Container Terminal, the company continues to invest heavily in logistics and port operations, reinforcing its ongoing partnership with the government-backed Sagarmala Finance Corporation to scale sustainable shipping solutions across India.
