UAE Progresses on Key Oil Pipeline to Bypass Strait of Hormuz
The United Arab Emirates is making significant strides in its strategic infrastructure project, with the second pipeline designed to circumvent the Strait of Hormuz now halfway to completion. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and head of Adnoc, highlighted that the project is being fast-tracked for a 2027 delivery. As global energy markets face increasing instability, the UAE is prioritizing supply redundancy, ensuring that its crude exports can reach international customers even if critical maritime chokepoints face blockades or disruptions.
Beyond infrastructure, Al Jaber raised alarms regarding the state of global energy investment, which he described as dangerously insufficient. He pointed out that current annual upstream investment of $400 billion is merely sustaining existing production levels rather than expanding necessary capacity. With global spare oil capacity currently trailing at three million barrels per dayāshort of the ideal five millionāAl Jaber emphasized the urgent need for increased investment to bolster storage levels. By expanding export alternatives through facilities like the Fujairah terminal and this new pipeline, the UAE aims to solidify its role as a reliable energy provider in an increasingly volatile geopolitical landscape.
