UAE Businesses Face $2.88 Million Annual Loss from Insider Security Threats
New research from Trellix reveals that companies in the UAE are grappling with a staggering $2.88 million in annual losses due to insider-related cybersecurity breaches. While traditional employee negligence and malicious intent account for a large portion of these incidents, the rapid integration of artificial intelligence is creating a dangerous new frontier. Nearly half of the affected organizations have faced significant data loss, while others are struggling with operational downtime and a deteriorating reputation. Alarmingly, autonomous AI systems now represent 29% of these threats, complicating the task for security leaders who must now monitor both human behavior and high-speed machine activity.
The report also highlights a growing disconnect within corporate leadership, as 85% of CISOs feel that board members fail to grasp the true severity of insider risks. This is compounded by a lack of visibility, with most firms admitting they don't fully track how AI tools are being utilized by staff. Compounding the issue is a slow reaction time, as it takes an average of over 14 hours for companies to detect and address these breaches. To stay secure, experts suggest that organizations must move beyond simple trust, implementing better oversight of AI agents and establishing automated security operations to neutralize threats before they escalate into full-scale business crises.
