UAE Residents Offered Faster Path to Financial Recovery with New Credit Scoring System

Thu, Oct 29, 2026(1h ago)Business

UAE residents struggling with past financial defaults now have a more efficient route to repairing their credit standing thanks to the launch of "Credit Score 3i" by the Etihad Credit Bureau. Previously, a single financial misstep could keep an individual in a low credit category for as long as two years. This updated model changes that dynamic by allowing borrowers to begin shifting out of the lowest score bracket after just six months of consistent, responsible repayment. By extending the behavioral assessment period from 24 to 36 months, the system now better distinguishes between those experiencing one-time financial hurdles and individuals with recurring payment issues.

In addition to helping those in recovery, the system introduces a dedicated pathway for new residents and those who have never utilized credit, enabling them to generate a score in as little as one month. To further improve accessibility, the bureau has slashed the fee for checking a credit score from Dh30 to Dh10 and integrated a transparency feature that allows users to view the specific positive and negative factors influencing their ratings directly through the official app. With data from "buy now, pay later" services now included in profiles, officials are encouraging residents to monitor their reports regularly to maintain financial health and facilitate better access to future banking products.
