Gold Prices Inch Up in Dubai Ahead of Crucial US Inflation Data
Gold prices in Dubai saw a slight uptick as the market opened on Thursday, with investors holding their breath for upcoming US inflation reports. These economic indicators are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the Federal Reserve's future interest rate strategy. As of the morning session, 24K gold was priced at Dh531.25 per gram, while 22K, 21K, 18K, and 14K variants opened at Dh492, Dh471.75, Dh404.25, and Dh315.50 respectively. Meanwhile, international spot gold prices experienced a minor dip of 0.13 percent, hovering around $4,409.2 per ounce.
Market experts suggest that gold is currently trapped in a narrow trading range, caught between conflicting economic forces. While the potential for further interest rate hikes and rising bond yieldsâwhich make non-yielding assets like gold less attractiveâare exerting downward pressure, these are being offset by a softer US dollar and ongoing geopolitical instability. Ole Hansen, Head of Commodity Strategy at Saxo Bank, noted that both human traders and algorithmic systems are waiting for clear signals from US consumer and producer price data. Ultimately, if the upcoming inflation figures come in higher than expected, it may solidify the case for more rate hikes, whereas cooling data could provide a much-needed boost to gold prices.
