UAE President Honors Youngest Arab Mountaineer to Conquer Antarctica
Fatima Abdulrahman Al Awadhi has etched her name in history, becoming the youngest Arab climber to reach the summit of Mount Vinson, the tallest mountain in Antarctica. The 18-year-oldâs impressive feat, completed on January 6, 2026, marks the third stage of her goal to scale the Seven Summits. Having previously made headlines as the youngest Emirati to conquer Europeâs Mount Elbrus at 17, Fatima described the Antarctic expedition as a grueling test of endurance, noting that the isolation and sub-zero temperatures required immense mental fortitude and self-reliance.
In a touching moment of recognition, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan recently hosted the teenager to celebrate her achievement. During the meeting, which was captured in social media clips, the President spent time viewing photos of Fatimaâs various climbs and offered his encouragement by signing a commemorative board she presented. This gesture highlights the nationâs commitment to supporting the ambitious goals of its youth, a sentiment Fatima echoed by expressing her deep gratitude to the UAE leadership for fostering an environment where young people are empowered to pursue their boldest dreams.
