Dubai Expands Stormwater Network to Boost Infrastructure Resilience
Dubai Municipality has officially launched four major infrastructure projects under Phase 3 of its "Tasreef" programme, aimed at significantly bolstering the cityâs stormwater drainage capabilities. This ambitious Dh3 billion initiative involves installing roughly 100 kilometres of primary drainage lines, with some pipes reaching up to three metres in diameter. By connecting key neighborhoodsâincluding Jumeirah, Al Quoz, Al Barsha, and Al Marmoomâto the central network, the city aims to increase its water-flow capacity and improve long-term operational resilience across nearly 100 square kilometres of urban landscape.
The broader Tasreef programme stands as a cornerstone of Dubaiâs long-term infrastructure strategy, backed by a total investment of Dh30 billion. Once fully realized, the programme is expected to elevate the city's drainage capacity by 700 per cent while simultaneously cutting maintenance and pumping costs by 20 per cent. By upgrading infrastructure along critical arteries like Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, as well as developing new systems in areas like Al Wasl and Al Marmoom, Dubai is effectively future-proofing itself against heavy rainfall and supporting the sustainable growth of its thriving urban environment.
