NEET-UG 2026: NTA Extends Exam Duration Amid Paper Leak Probe
In a move to restore integrity and fairness, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially updated the format for the upcoming NEET-UG re-examination, set for Sunday, June 21. Recognizing the stress caused by the recent paper leak scandal, authorities have extended the testing duration from 180 to 195 minutes. This adjustment, which shifts the exam window to 2:00 PM â 5:15 PM, is designed to account for mandatory administrative tasks like attendance and invigilation. By providing this extra cushion, the NTA aims to ensure that students can focus entirely on their papers without feeling rushed by procedural requirements. Additionally, the agency has expanded the space allotted for rough work within the question booklets to better support students during the exam.
The necessity for this re-examination stems from a massive controversy involving alleged malpractices and widespread paper leaks during the initial May 3 assessment, which saw over 2.28 million students participate globally. Following reports of startling similarities between leaked documents and actual test materials, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched an extensive multi-state probe, resulting in several arrests, including a key academic linked to the NTAâs internal processes. As the nation grapples with this significant breach of trust in the education system, these modified procedures serve as a critical step toward reclaiming the credibility of one of the worldâs largest medical entrance examinations.
