Dubai Announces Three-Day Weekend for Islamic New Year
Government employees across Dubai are set to enjoy a long weekend in honor of the Islamic New Year, marking the arrival of Hijri 1448 AH. The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has officially confirmed that Monday, June 15, 2026, will be a paid public holiday. Since this date falls at the start of the workweek, employees who follow the standard Saturday-Sunday weekend will benefit from a convenient three-day break, with regular business operations resuming on Tuesday, June 16.
While the public sector takes a pause, the DGHR noted that essential service providers and those operating on shift schedules may adjust their timings to maintain uninterrupted operations. This announcement aligns with the broader national directives from the UAEâs Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Notably, in Sharjah, residents working a four-day week will see their time off extended even further into a four-day weekend. As the UAE prepares to welcome the month of Muharram, officials have extended warm greetings to the nationâs leadership and the wider Arab and Islamic communities, wishing them continued stability and prosperity.
