Significant Financial Boosts and New Work Opportunities for Sharjah Citizens

Fri, Sep 11, 2026(2h ago)UAE

Recent directives from Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, have introduced major financial improvements for thousands of local families, government employees, and retirees. A key highlight of these measures is the establishment of a Dh20,000 monthly living standard, which directly benefits over 26,000 households, including government staff, retirees, and social support recipients. Beyond these base salary increases, additional raises have been authorized for specialized professionals—such as doctors, engineers, and veterinarians—as well as those in various government grades, ensuring that no employee is left behind in the emirate's effort to enhance the quality of life for its citizens.

To further social inclusion, Sharjah has also launched a unique part-time employment program tailored for senior citizens and retirees who wish to remain active without the rigors of full-time work. This initiative offers flexible arrangements, such as limited daily hours or a reduced weekly schedule, featuring roles designed to be accessible and engaging, like greeting guests at local museums. Additionally, the government is pushing to meet its 2026 employment targets, with a mandate to hire 1,200 more Emiratis before the year ends, building on the 1,800 appointments already made since January. These comprehensive steps reflect a strategic commitment to fostering community participation and financial security for the aging population and the workforce alike.
