Sharjah Police Saves Woman After Coded "Pizza" Distress Call
A quick-thinking emergency dispatcher in Sharjah recently saved a woman from a dangerous domestic situation by deciphering a clever, coded plea for help. The expatriate woman dialed the police emergency line and repeatedly insisted on "ordering a pizza," even after the operator, Khamis, clarified that she had reached the authorities. Recognizing that the caller was likely speaking under duress and unable to talk freely, the dispatcher played along to keep her on the line. By asking tactical questions about the order, such as how many pizzas she needed, he was able to quietly gather essential information, including the number of people present in the house, while his colleagues initiated a location trace.
The incident, which was shared by Captain Majid Al Bas on the "Aman Ya Biladi" radio program, highlights the critical importance of specialized training for emergency responders. Once the team pinpointed the womanâs location, they immediately dispatched field units to the scene, where they intervened to protect the woman from her husband, who was reportedly acting in an erratic and threatening manner. Captain Al Bas praised the dispatcherâs vigilance, noting that Sharjah Police are specifically trained to identify subtle linguistic cues and behavioral red flags, ensuring they can provide assistance even when victims are unable to speak openly about their situation.
