UAE Sees 15% Drop in Labour Violations Amidst Stricter Regulatory Oversight
The United Arab Emirates has reported a positive shift in its private sector landscape, with labour violations declining by 15% during the first half of 2026. Data from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) indicates that this improvement is accompanied by a significant 49% decrease in cases referred to public prosecution, suggesting that businesses are becoming more aligned with federal regulations. This progress is largely attributed to the ministry's implementation of a sophisticated âsmart monitoring system,â which leverages artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics to proactively identify and inspect high-risk establishments.
Despite this overall improvement, authorities continue to highlight persistent issues, including the illegal hiring of unauthorized workers, discrepancies in official documentation, and delays in salary disbursements. Under current labour laws, failing to adhere to the Wage Protection System or employing staff without proper permits can result in hefty fines reaching up to Dh1 million. With the ministry conducting over 212,000 site visits this year, officials remain committed to enforcing strict compliance to ensure a stable and fair working environment for all employees across the nation.
