Stop Misusing 999: Dubai Police Urge Public to Keep Emergency Lines Clear

Thu, Sep 10, 2026(1h ago)UAE

As the UAE observes Emergency Number Day under the theme “Every Second Makes a Difference,” authorities are stressing the critical importance of keeping the 999 hotline reserved for true crises. Unfortunately, emergency dispatchers continue to be overwhelmed by a high volume of non-urgent calls, ranging from simple requests for traffic fine information to bizarre inquiries like asking officers to join them for lunch. These unnecessary calls clog the system and, more importantly, risk delaying life-saving assistance for individuals facing genuine, time-sensitive emergencies.

To address this, the Ministry of Interior and local police departments are reminding the public that 999 is strictly for situations where there is an immediate threat to life, safety, or property. For all routine matters, such as general inquiries or information regarding police services, residents should dial 901. By utilizing the 901 line for non-emergency issues, the public can help ensure that emergency operators remain available to provide rapid support to those who truly need it most.
