Dubai’s Catholic Churches Fully Resume Operations Following Security Restrictions
After a challenging three-month period of limited access, Dubai’s primary Catholic parishes, St. Mary’s in Oud Metha and St. Francis of Assisi in Jebel Ali, have officially returned to full operations. These restrictions, which were implemented by the Community Development Authority last April amid heightened regional tensions during the conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States, had previously forced the suspension of in-person services, including those during the critical Holy Week period. Bishop Paolo Martinelli, the Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia, officially announced the reopening, expressing deep gratitude to the local authorities for prioritizing the safety of the community during such a sensitive time.
The return to normalcy marks a significant milestone for the thousands of worshippers who had to rely on online streams or navigate strict, limited access protocols over the past few months. In his message to the congregation, Bishop Martinelli praised the patience and resilience shown by the faithful, including families and children, who adapted to the precautionary measures. As the churches welcome back their full communities, the Bishop has encouraged parishioners to continue upholding the values of respect and civic responsibility, ensuring that the return to worship remains orderly and supportive for everyone involved.
